| Il Tour vinto l`anno scorso da Floyd Landis e` ancora sotto inchiesta; si cerca il vero erede di Lance Armstrong. Lo statunitense ha vinto sette Tour consecutivi, Miguel Indurain, negli anni `90, si era fermato a cinque. L`ultimo italiano a vincere la Grande Boucle e` stato Marco Pantani nel 1998, prima di lui Felice Gimondi nel lontano 1965.
In totale i ciclisti azzurri hanno ottenuto il successo nove volte; Bottecchia, Bartali e Coppi hanno vinto due Tour a testa. Nella classifica per nazioni la Francia e` al comando con 36 vittorie, segue il Belgio con 18, poi gli Stati Uniti con 10 (escluso il titolo del 2006). Questo l`albo d`oro completo:
